Like there has been before, there will be a format war between the different parties involved in the development of HD TV in the coming years.Other format wars have included VHS vs BETAMAX, VHS won, then Blueray vs HD DVD, Blue ray won. Sky Cards know why Blueray won the war, its because HD DVD was endorsed by the likes of Toshiba whereas Blueray was supported by companies like Sony, which wanted to, and did put the Blueray tecnology into there playsation devices which had a massive market saturation in the gaming industry.

Sony also had a massive customer following who would back any products they would release, whereas Toshiba make mostly TV’s so to market HD DVD compatable players it would be a harder task than Sony.

So it is almost garaunteed that if you are with Sky for your current HD TV then Sky Cards think that you are with the right TV provider going forward to ensure you HD 3D viewing.

You will however when the time comes have to updgrade your hardware, and buy some 3D glasses, but from Sky Cards resarch these will probably be about a £2 by the time the 3D technology is mainstream. It’s really exciting and Sky Cards will bring you the latest news on the Sky HD 3D TV developments.

Sky Cards have been doing some research lately about the possibility of sending record commands to you Sky box, so if you forget to record something you can still do it if you are out and about.Its old news the fact that you can text your Sky box with a command in a certain syntax and it will record your desired programme if it is half an hour or more before the start.

Well in fact you are not texting your Sky box directly you text a standard Sky number 61759 then Sky send the instructions to you r Sky box to record the appropriate programme via you phone line, so you must have the Sky box connected to a valid phone line.

The syntax for the text is;

Channel (name or number). Date DD/MM. Time HH:HH

So for example;

Sky news. 04/12. 09:00

Notice the . (dot) in between each part, this is important so the Sky computer can separate the channel from the date and the time.

If you don’t want to mess around with texts and you have an android mobile phone like the HTC G1 or HTC Hero you can install an application on to your phone which allows you to search through programming and select what you want to record, makes it a bit easier and quicker than a text and it’s pretty cool!

Since the launch of the Sky Cards Project what-dish-size a few weeks ago it has seen great success, many people have contributed and the information provided has helped many future Sky TV viewers in Europe.Now that people have been actively using it and we are happy with the response, we will now add some new features and resolve any bugs people may have encountered.

The new features for the Sky Cards Project what-dish-size are;

Location based details, so the town of Sky dish is show in text

Bigger map size to show more Sky dish locations

Depending on which country a Sky dish is in we will provide a link to a corresponding country information page

When you click on a Sky dish location the map will snap and make the Sky dish in the centre for better reading of information

We will roll out these changes a.s.a.p and we hope you like them.

Remember to make the Sky Cards Project what-dish-size a success, we need as many people kindly submitting thier dish size if they already receive Sky TV.

To raise awareness of the project please link to us:

On our home page you will find our new Project what-dish-size tool which makes it easier to find the illusive facts on what dish size you need and where in the World.When trying the receive Sky around the world it becomes harder and harder to establish what dish size you need and where you need it, as well as if you can receive Sky TV in the first place.

The aim of the new tool is to provide a platform in which prospective Sky TV viewers can find out what dish size they need in a given location and for current Sky TV viewers to share with the tool what dish size they have that receive Sky TV where they live.

The tools uses a Google map interface which makes it easy to view and share the locations of various dish sizes.

The tool is an open tool as we believe this is the best way to share this type of information in an easy and accessible way. However the information given is presented as a guide only for what dish size you may need although it is monitored closely to prevent spammers submitting way off dish sizes and causing problems.

The coolest09 thing we think is that it show where the Sky satellite resides in it’s geostationary orbit and on the viewer, you can see all the submitted dishes pointing to the once source.

The traditional curtain raiser to the season, which is sponsored by McDonald’s, will be shown on Sky Sports for the next three years – starting with Chelsea v Manchester United on Sunday August 9 at Wembley Stadium.
