A whole host of new, original programmes coming your way!

We’re only a couple of weeks into 2015 and already, it’s looking like it could be a blockbuster year for entertainment all round on Britain’s favourite satellite broadcaster.

As well as the return of many of the nation’s favourite TV shows, there’s also some new original Sky programming to look forward to with some pretty impressive casts and screenplays to get our teeth into. Here’s the pick of the bunch:

Fortitude (Sky Atlantic)

Starting 29th January, 2015 at 9pm, this new arctic thriller boasts an all-star cast of Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston, Sofie Grabol, Richard Dormer, Jessica Raine, Luke Treadaway, Nicholas Pinnock and Johnny Harris.

Set over twelve one hour episodes, the story is centered on a mysterious death in the Arctic Circle, all taking place and filmed in the snowing, harsh winters of Iceland and parts of the UK.

Fortitude is a place like no other. Although surrounded by the fiercely cold beauty of the Arctic terrain, Fortitude is said to be one of the safest towns on the planet. There has never been a violent crime here until now…

With such a close-knit community, any murder affects everyone and the unsettling, mysterious horror of this crime threatens the future of the towns very fabric.

Created and written by Simon Donald, Fortitude will air exclusively on Sky Atlantic HD in January 2015 and you;d be a fool to miss it. Critics are saying this one could be the hit series of 2015.

Games of Thrones (Sky Atlantic)

The much anticipated season 5 of this blood-thirsty, HBO fantasy series returns to our screens on Monday 13th April at 9pm.

While we wait for Game of Thrones season 5 (already renewed for 6, with the cast already signed up to season 7), we know of both returning, confirmed absent, and a multitude of other new characters cast, including those that confirm we’ll be visiting the oft-mentioned kingdom of Dorne, for which Spain will double.

As expected, the story will draw heavily from George R.R. Martin‘s fourth and fifth novels, ‘A Feast for Crows’ and ‘A Dance with Dragons,’ while HBO has also provided a list of directors, as well as insight into which literary stories may not make the transition to film.

But let’s not get too carried away with spoilers and too much details. Let’s just wait in anticipation until April for it all to start up again on Sky Atlantic HD!

Penny Dreadful (Sky Atlantic)

Although greeted with mixed reviews, it has been confirmed that a second helping of Showtime’s dark and chilling gothic horror show will be returning for a second series.

A run of ten brand new episodes will start airing on Sky Atlantic HD from this Spring, with a final start date to be confirmed.

Fans of the show said it was worth sticking with, as it gained momentum and improved greatly as the series developed. So if you missed out on season one, it will be re-airing on Sky for sure and if you’ve already seen the first instalment, there’s a nice teaser trailer available to whet your blood-thristy appetite!
